Description
Automatic Hydraulic Self-Cleaning Screen Filter
The Automatic Hydraulic Self-Cleaning Screen Filter is a robust, high-performance filtration solution designed for irrigation, water treatment, and industrial water filtration applications. Engineered for continuous operation, this hydraulically operated automatic screen filter removes suspended solids from water while minimizing maintenance, downtime, and the need for external power.
Designed to handle a wide range of water sources—including surface water, well water, and reclaimed water—the self-cleaning screen filter provides reliable filtration in demanding operating environments. Its rugged construction, corrosion-resistant components, and minimal number of moving parts make it well suited for agricultural irrigation systems, municipal water treatment, industrial process water, and other applications requiring dependable automatic filtration.
Automatic Self-Cleaning Filtration
During normal operation, suspended solids are retained on the inner surface of the stainless steel filtration screen. As solids accumulate, differential pressure across the filter increases. When the preset cleaning condition is reached, the automatic hydraulic backwash cycle is activated.
During backwashing, a stainless steel suction scanner equipped with rubber nozzles travels along the surface of the screen. The scanner uses a vacuum effect to remove accumulated solids from the screen and discharge them through the drain.
The cleaning cycle is fast and efficient, allowing filtration to continue uninterrupted while the filter cleans itself. Because the backwash system is hydraulically operated, it uses the system’s own water pressure and hydraulic energy, eliminating the need for an external electrical power source for the cleaning process.
This automatic self-cleaning operation helps maintain consistent filtration performance while reducing manual screen cleaning and routine maintenance requirements.
Advanced Screen Filtration
The standard filtration element is a 120-mesh (130-micron) stainless steel screen supported within a durable polyamide tubular structure. Multiple screen filtration grades are available to accommodate different water-quality conditions and filtration requirements.

Durable Construction and Protective Coating
The filter body is manufactured from carbon steel and treated internally and externally with advanced surface treatment technology before being finished with an electrostatic epoxy-polyester powder coating. This protective system is designed to provide durable corrosion resistance for demanding installations, including outdoor applications.
Key materials include:
- Filter body: Carbon steel
- Filtration screen: Stainless steel, standard AISI 316
- Suction scanner: AISI 316 stainless steel
- Gaskets: NBR synthetic nitrile rubber, 60° Shore
- Fasteners: Zinc-plated, corrosion-resistant screws suitable for outdoor use
- Screen support: Polyamide tubular structure
Other stainless steel screen grades are available upon request.
Continuous Filtration Without External Power
One of the primary advantages of this automatic self-cleaning screen filter is its hydraulically powered cleaning system. Unlike electrically driven automatic filters, the backwashing process operates using the available hydraulic energy within the water system.
This provides several benefits:
- Continuous filtration during the cleaning cycle
- No external electrical power required for backwashing
- Reduced manual cleaning requirements
- Efficient removal of accumulated suspended solids
- Minimal moving parts
- Reliable operation in remote or outdoor installations
- Reduced filtration downtime
- Automatic response to increasing differential pressure
The result is a filtration system designed to maintain dependable water quality while simplifying operation and maintenance.
Irrigation and Water Treatment Applications
The automatic hydraulic screen filter is suitable for a wide variety of water filtration applications where suspended solids must be removed before water is delivered to downstream equipment or irrigation systems.
Typical applications include:
- Agricultural irrigation filtration
- Drip irrigation systems
- Sprinkler irrigation systems
- Surface water filtration
- Well water filtration
- Reclaimed water filtration
- Industrial water treatment
- Process water filtration
- Municipal water systems
- Pre-filtration for downstream water treatment equipment
- Protection of pumps, valves, emitters, and other water system components
The filter can be configured in multiple sizes and filtration grades to accommodate different flow requirements and water-quality conditions.
High-Flow Filtration Capacity
The automatic screen filter series is available with 3-inch through 12-inch flange connections, providing filtration solutions for small, medium, and high-flow water systems.
Depending on the model and water-quality conditions, rated flow capacities extend to approximately 525 gpm (317 m³/h). Actual recommended flow depends on the selected filter configuration, screen mesh, suspended-solids concentration, and application conditions.
For relatively clean water conditions, higher flow rates may be achievable. Applications with greater suspended-solids loading should be evaluated using the manufacturer’s recommended flow rates and filtration guidelines.
Operating Pressure
The automatic hydraulic screen filter is designed for demanding pressure applications.
Key pressure specifications include:
- Maximum operating pressure: 150 psi
- Minimum operating pressure: 15 psi
- Minimum cleaning pressure: 35 psi
- Testing pressure: 210 psi
- Available pressure rating: Up to 235 psi
A minimum cleaning pressure of approximately 35 psi is required to provide effective hydraulic backwashing.
Robust Design for Reliable Water Filtration
With a rugged carbon-steel body, stainless steel filtration components, protective powder coating, and a hydraulically operated suction-scanner cleaning system, this automatic screen filter is engineered for dependable long-term operation.
The combination of automatic backwashing, continuous filtration, fine screen filtration, high flow capacity, and low-maintenance operation makes it an effective solution for protecting downstream water infrastructure and maintaining consistent filtration performance.
